Quirk Hotel + Gallery and Visual Arts Center of Richmond are thrilled to introduce their newest artist-in-residence, Haiyin Liang. Please join in welcoming Haiyin at a special reception on Thursday, July 5 from 5-8 pm in Quirk's Main Gallery.
Haiyin is largely influenced by her Chinese heritage and "combine[s] the aesthetics of Chinese paintings with materials uncommonly used in jewelry to create work that evokes shi-yi, a Chinese word that describes the feeling of inner peace and tranquility achieved through the reading of poetry and painting." Additional inspiration is drawn from landscape paintings from the Song dynasty as well as research focused on ancient Chinese gardens, courtyard layouts, and garden structures.
Haiyin's residency will conclude with a solo show of new work to be exhibited in The Mezzanine at Quirk Hotel October 11 through November 11. A collection of her jewelry will be available in Quirk's gallery shop.
