"Fall Line," a wood sculpture and functional bench designed to evoke the James River, is the centerpiece of the lobby at James Branch Cabell Library. Installed in 2018, it was the finishing touch for the vastly expanded and renewed library building that was completed in 2016. The bench has become a much discussed, enjoyed and used feature.
Artist Heath Matysek-Snyder, assistant professor and wood area head in VCUarts' Department of Craft/Material Studies, will give celebratory remarks and a Q&A with the audience on Tuesday, August 14. This is your chance to meet the artist, to learn about his inspirations and discuss the complex process of building a functional public sculpture. Refreshments will be available.
